Nuclear War that has already been decided against Iran.
The US is in rediculous debt, and borrows it's money from the Federal Reserve, a private organization that makes intrest off every dollar printed. The value of the Dollar is dropping. Yet the Gov't still insists on finding a way to drop a nuclear bomb on Iran.
...and Earth, the only thriving living planet in our galaxy, and possibly universe, WONT be the same. There is NO reason human beings cannot live not only here but throughout the solar system until the Sun blows up. That is the absoulte natural way for mankind to die. ... Instead, Nuclear War will end the existance of the Sky.
lol thats my understanding of the song, in a nutshell.
"Everybody knows, that you cradle the sun" - I think he is really saying "son" here, meaning Christianity is a spin off of worshiping the "sun" , hence "cradle the sun" ... but he means literally what we think he says too, the Sun is the most important thing to Life's existance on Earth, and that is undenyable to everyone.
"Living in remorse, Sky is over" - People don't stand up about or for anything, and now a nuclear war is unavoidable. (Many songs on the CD talk about how we are lied to by the media all the time; we've been lied too for so long that it is unavoidable)
"Even though we can't afford, the Sky is over" - Even though we are 8 Trillion dollars in debt as a country, and cannot afford to fix our own cities, we are going to continue to police to world, start a nuclear war, and change life for everything on this planet.
"Not even from the sun"
We wont even die the natural way, from the sun, which is a star, blowing up. We are the only thriving living planet in our galaxy, and seemingly universe. There is no reason humans cannot live until that happens... I also think he could be dualy meaning, or not nessacary saying but meaning "son" here again...
I enjoyed reading your interpretation. I liked it. I hadn't even thought about Nukes when I would listen to this song. I believe it goes a little deeper than just one type of destruction to our planet.

Serj goes on to rant about something called Totalitarian Agriculture, beginning at 5:10. lol, wow. When this is typed into Google you get http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Story_of_B , this is one of my favorite books. I am wondering why you left out my favorite part of the song...

Behind closed eyes lie
The minds ready to awaken you.
The people killing the planet are closed eyed, not seeing what they are doing, but there are people like Daniel Quinn, the man who wrote The Story Of B, that are ready to show everybody what the takers of this planet are doing.
Are you at war with land
And all of its creatures
see Totalitarian Agriculture
Your not-so-gentle persuasion
Has been known to wreck economies
Of countries, of empires, the sky is over
There's your war, that is where the Nuke comes in.
