I think it has to do with the misinterpretation of religion, or what it is that god wants.

The unholy mob, being the people that misinterpret what it is that they're supposed to do in order to worship their god. War is god, he wants us to kill, and they're prepared to die for it. This specifically makes me thing of terrorists, thought that might not be what this is about.

This backs it up, by saying that he found a purpose, and realized what he's supposed to do "kill". but then it mocks him bay saying you could've mistook this for the meaning of sin. Saying that, he probably misinterpreted what it was supposed to be.
