I think its a little more general than just these two people... And I don't necessarily see it as being the "high life," just talking about guys who are dead set on their image and do whatever it takes to project a specific image - and hes saying these guys are gonna lie and do whatever it takes to fit in and, well to get into someones pants. The girls are general in the sense that everyone follows the same fads and go out not to have a good time but to score, just like the guys. "she" only wears whats in style, looks like everyone else and is miserable if she goes home alone. Its people who are lonely but are comfortable in their roles at the same time - they don't care as long as they have control, and these "people" control by putting on a facade and screwing - and she falls in love for the night, and the next day its over and that's just the cycle. Reminds me of college and how a lot of young professional peers act when they go out - they just want that moment of acceptance and love from the opposite sex and even though its not real, they feel like they have control over it which comforts them.
