Originally when they performed it live there was a line that said "I am not your new Messiah, and I will not take you higher", to me an obvious reference to Scott Stapp. Basically it's telling the label that the band isn't going to be Creed Part II, they're going to be Alter Bridge, and Myles Kennedy is not going to just be another Stapp.
