This song is simply about the little man, the big man the good man, the bad man, the rich man, the poor man- and the battle between them. And the bad man seems to always come out on top no matter what the good man does. Because the big man has the money, the little man needs the money. Like the song says "Common sense wont pay the rent and doesnt grow on trees, but splitting hairs can get you anything you need." The meek try to live by common sense alone, while the tyrants split those hairs to get exactly what they want. It is all about taking from others in this day and age. Noone is humble anymore-and they are all too arrogant. "Charity's a rarity- almost as much a modesty" So we take the bait only because we know that in the end we will rest peacfully and wont be turning in our graves.
