This song is one of my favorite songs... it's one of those songs that are spot on about how I'm feeling right now.

This part means(to me) that the two lovers were feeling lost and alone in the world until they found eachother, and when they became close, they told eachother everything.
"we've trapped our tongues and stumbled on our midnight steps"
I think here its speaking of the secrets they created with eachother.
"and oh how I know you best, your the troublesome mess, but I would cut every corner to find you"
This ones a bit self explainatory, but it's saying how one of the couple supposedly has some problems, but the other loves him/her anyways.
I'm too tired and lazy to think of anything else, and the songs pretty self explainatory in itself. So yeah.
