To me its about a breakup or pending breakup that he can see coming, (or she might be getting ready to leave him) d rather then drag it out, he says get it over with and just end it
The reason I see it this way, is the line "everythings broken, everythings vacant". He's brokenhearted and feeling empty. That and the other lines pointing to broken dreams and etc.
