I agree with most of your lyrics, mr. doodle. Except, I don't think the second verse starts with a question. I think it is:
You thought the sea could make her belly swell
In a bad dream...
Also, in the repeated lines at the end, the second one sounds to me like:
When did we come home in hearts of iron naked?
Interesting about the birds who lay eggs in other birds nests. I hadn't thought of that, but it seems right on. I am still contemplating the meaning of this one. Obviously, a couple whose hearts have hardened toward each other. But the references to fertility/pregnancy. Hmmm... still thinking.
