I agree this is a pretty sad song. For people who care this is what i means to me: This sailor comes back from being at sea for 9 months to see his "old true love". He hears that she has been married to a "House Carpenter". He goes on to say that when he was gone he could have married the kings daughter and would have been rich but he didn't because he still was in love with her. So he presudes her to run away with him and "forsake her house carpenter". She leaves her baby to the house carpenter and runs away with the sailor. Once they are 2 weeks at sea she beings to have second thoughts and begins to miss her "darling little babe" and her "forsaken house carpenter", that she will never see again. Then comes the third week at sea and there "comes a leak in the bottom of the ship" and it sinks...so they died at sea and never really got to be together. Tear... I also think that the "darling little babe" was the sailors, because it states that the sailors wasn't around in 9 months. Hope that helps some people!
