One more comment, now that I've been smacked over the head and belatedly convinced that it's about homosexuality within the Church: both the Sundance Channel's documentary miniseries "One Punk Under God" (which follows the life of Jay Bakker, son of Jim and Tammy Faye, who payed a price for welcoming GLBT individuals into his ministry) and the forthcoming indie documentary "For the Bible Tells Me So" (in limited theatrical release starting on October 5) speak to the same issue in rather powerful terms.
It's long past time to beat these particular swords into plowshares. Homosexuality has been with us throughout recorded history, and we're still here and thriving, and we've got so much more important things to do than to make our brothers and sisters feel unwelcome based upon with whom they choose to go to bed at the end of the day.
Heartfelt thanks to Copeland and the contributors here.
