Crescendo-- the like "train the monkeys on my back to fight" refers to the expression "monkey on my back" (see Led Zeppelin's "Nobody's Fault but Mine")... the expression is another way of saying that you have a problem that is burdening your mind.
I think in that line, and in that stanza in general, Jon is asking for all that is already slowly happening to quickly commence (wars beginning, the world falling to pieces) and get it over with.
