I lovelovelove this song and I'm surprised no one has commented on it yet.
To me, the "soft black stars" is a symbol of something pure and untouched. Like children. But as they get told how to think (by perhaps religion - the book, the letter and the word) that all disappears and the innocence of the soft black stars is no longer.
I think this song is a longing to be innocent; to not know how cruel this world can be. And a longing to maybe just sit there under the stars without a single worry.
