actually - this song refers to a relationship with God. it describes how as natural-born sinners, when we receive Christ, we try to leave our old life behind.."Fly, I am trying to fly to leave it all behind. Jesus Christ is the only one who can heal our spiritual wounds & change our lives..but the entire point of this song is that we have been deceived, both with lies & by people that claim to be here to help us, but in the end only end up hurting us. "fairweather friends"..they come idly by here & there, but they're never really there for us the way Christ is - He is the ultimate friend. "..I, I could fix my eyes. Maybe this time I will fix my eyes on you.." Sometimes we think that we have to be the ones to conform to the ways of this world, the way society thinks we should behave, but the Bible tells us to do the complete opposite! So now maybe instead of conforming to what my "fairweather friends" want me to be, maybe I'll finally consider what the King of Kings, my Healer, my Savior, the Lord of my Life wants me to be... I'll stop worrying about the things around me & focus on Him for a change..after all, He's the only One who's ALWAYS been there.
