Just because the band is catholic doesn't mean that the songs are. That's oversimplification. This isn't a religious song. I don't see any ties to jesus or god in those lyrics. I see a fight against conformity (break the spell of the typical/because it's dragging me down). I think that seeing god there is just projection of one's own faith into something that has no religious ties.
