I don't think this song really has anything to do with bashing catholics. I think it's how non-christians act regarding sin and stuff, and how they view christians.
Don’t fool the crowd with all your sentiments in vain.
We are alive again. We will survive again.
Don’t turn your back to every move you ever made.
We are alive again. We will survive again.
"sentiments in vain" they pretend to feel bad about what they do, but they really aren't.
"turn your back" they say they'll change, but they wont, because they keep doing what they've always done.
The second verse talks about how non-christians look at us as being perfect people, and that we can somehow make them feel better. it goes on to say that we're just the same, we make the same kind of mistakes, but we feel the "sting," or the guilt, because we know the truth and that we shouldn't be sinning.
the chorus is talking about how until Christ comes back for us, we'll always have this sin problem, "we are what we are."
I'm not quite sure what the second verse means, but the bridge is talking about the same thing.
They paint us immaculate.
Ignoring the fact that we’re shoving our faults in their faces.
they call us perfect, even though everyday they can see we are just as bad as they are.
They wanted more.
Of the fame, of the scripted, the same,
Of the sacred, the fraud, fabricated.
not too sure what this means, but i think its talking about once they see we have faults, they want more examples of how we are wrong.
