What I wanna question is why the narrator didn't seem to have any remorse when he woke up and heard the whole massacre, but didn't do anything about it. Justin wouldn't be the type to just not think about that.
I agree with whoever said that it would take away from the story, because it would, but that would not be the only reason Justin didn't put anything about that in, he is an extremely talented song writer, he would have thought it through, you're right. Possibly if the story is fictional he is just telling it as a narrator and nothing more, and just uses the "neighbour" thing as a way to look in on the story, though he isn't actually the neighbour. I also thought possibly by next door, he could be meaning the next room, like another...
