Who is Colin Meloy? I'm going to have to listen to him.
I love this song, especially having gone through two pregnancies in the last two years with my girlfriend - now definitely for the last time!
It really has relevance to anyone who's ever been close to a pregnant person, or someone with young kids. "Sick at noon for the last time" "Tiny striped socks for the last time"
But I think it's kind of a critique on people who just keep getting pregnant with lots of different partners, revealed in lines like "We're so glad you've finally decided" - to stop having kids - "But then you see someone new and you want someone new" and so it all happens again, with another pregnancy. And the comedy of the doctor saying don't nod your head until June (i.e. no more sex!)
I like Morrissey's sympathy for this multi-mother - "I don't blame you
We would all do the same as you
If ever we had the nerve to "
Great riff, such great musicians and songwriters he always finds.
