I believe this is actually a traditional American folk song. with some lyrics altered more to Dylan's liking. The staggered phrasing in this song is always worth coming back. I have heard it many times over and am still surprised by when he chooses to drag out a certain word or cut it short. Beautiful rendition . Better than the O' brother where art thou version
