i think the song is about him and his girlfriend or fiance or whatever, ending their relationship due to complications. i think that he found out that she was cheating on him or lying about something, and he got really mad and did something really bad that caused her to leave him. i think that he regrets what he did and is debating whether or not to try and get her back or to just move on and forget about her.

it also kind of sounds like the two had some sort of a complicating relationship and the girl was hurt about something in that relationship. but instead of sharing her feelings, she just pretended like everything was fine. and then she broke up with him without giving him the real reason why.
and when he says "please dont leave, marry me" in the chorus, i think he is asking the girl not to leave him because he loves her so much and it is almost as if he is promising her that things between the two of them will be better. i dont know if that makes too much sense, but whatever.
