The meaning of this song is summarized in the very first line: "Well you're just seventeen and all you want to do is disappear." In other words, teen angst. The individual described in the song feels stupid ("There's a lot of space between your ears"; "I feel so inarticualate") and just generally frustrated (hence "sheer heart attack".) He is self-conscious of his faults, but seems to blame them on his genes instead of taking responsibility for them ("It was the DNA that made me this way").

The "DNA" line could also have to do with the topic of sexual orientation, which some think is encoded in one's genes and impossible for outside influences to alter. Then again, it could just be about personality flaws, and I'm one of those stupid people who find a meaning of either AIDS or homosexuality in pretty much every Queen song unlucky enough to cross my path.

Perhaps Freddie felt like this in his teenage years, then looked back on it and decided it was good song material.

Which, judging from how good this song sounds, it definitely was!
