This song seems to be reflecting on loss, love and hate in this world - most times all go together. "Madmen on both sides of the fence" has a certain political meaning - fighting over issues in society. "Translate the face, wash of the dust, smoke plume twilight, american tears: Trying to connect with poeple, washing off the dust or madness when it's all over but still feeling the pain or sense of rejection afterwards. "Love is a pavement with spit in your heart: loves a winding road that we walk that can leave us beaten and bruised, "slow diamonds no laughter: perhaps reflecting on how we love someone so much, they sparkle like a diamond in our eyes but they never come around and feel the way you do and its plain sad. "Summoned to live up to the speculation din" We're supposed to try and understand all the madness and noise (din?) brought on by ourselves and others. Without love and in a world of hate we're all "headed to the atmosphere", away from ourself and others, having to fend for ourselves. Who knows though. Jay's deep, that's just my interpretation. It's also SUMMONED to live up to the speculation din not SUPPOSED.
