I agree with VASTjunkie in saying that this line is the keystone of the song. Basically, he's pointing out the irony in the fact that we've become so proud of, and dependent upon technology, that it's as if we've enveloped ourselves in a womb... If our electrical grid were to shut down, and our satellites were to fail, we would all be as helpless as a newborn baby...
