I think miracle and emokidd both have the right idea, i think it's kind of a combination.
the lines:
"we always hurt the ones we never really loved, we always think we are alone, we're always wrong"
could be about staying in a relationship you know isn't right for you but perhaps has been going on for awhile and maintains some level of 'comfort' and are afraid of being without that. "we'll live and die with all the things we recognize" could be referring to that comfort.
when you finally find someone you truly love, you would do anything you could to not hurt them. i think when you experience both ends of that you can understand.
maybe the two people will just never really see eye to eye, "the words we say take different shapes" could be about never really being able to fully communicate with each other.
the song also talks about how we know words are better left unspoken when we know they are just causing hurt and that you can only do so much to get your point across. i think this goes along with the idea of wasting your time on something negative and knowing that the hurtful arguing isn't going to help anything progress.
