I definitely think its about living for the here and now and enjoying the simple things in life (maybe this is why he says a cat could save the world - the love from a cat could make the loneliest person feel loved). I'm not sure but I'd love to read those books wetcoaster mentioned so I could possibly gain a little more insight. I think maybe this song is also about how human it is to think there's something more to look forward to and make the mistake of taking whats infront of you for granted.
