I dissagree with vivalainfu. I loved the live version. It was my favorite of thier whole set and I had never even heard it before.
As for the meaning it makes so much more sense with the suicide thing now. I'll add a few things to the story and see what you guys think.
To me this sounds like a boy killed himself over a girl who was acting like she liked him, but it was a joke that her friends put her up to. That would explian what "The Joke" is because his suicide obviously is no joke. So now he's saying to the girl "The jokes on you because your joke is what made me kill myself".
The reason I decided it's over a girl is because of the line "should have been my first kiss". Someone earlier said he lost his last friend, but if he was trying to kiss his friend then that freind left for a good reason!
A few more things. I figured out the line about "wearing his team to death" means he used his favorite sports team's shirt to hang himself.
Lastly, is "My big escape is my last mistake. You better turn around. Don't throw it away tonight" means that in his last moments he regretted hanging himself. He realizes that he overeacted and should have taken more time to think about it.
