Croatia existed as a country of it's own since the 7th century and Yugoslavia was nothing else than a pact between Croatia and Serbia. The war broke when Croatia decided to terminate the pact, to which Serbia responded by starting the war.

This is a reply to Aletheus...There was no PACT of Serbia and Croatia,and the croatian country was conquered by Hungary in 14 centry and then by Austrians in 16th centry...Then after ww1 you was supposed to be occupied by Italy but Serbia formed Yugoslavia to save you infact in 1921 we waged a war against Italy to save you.And its Croatia started the war not Serbia...If i remember you commited a genocide on serbians in Serb kraina...
