its sounds a lot to me like he's abusing someone.
for example the "gone are the days of sunshine, i promise" meaning that its going to be like this for awhile, same sa "shake loose that single gleam of hope let in your chest". and then the "trophies of black, blue, and red." would be depicting the bruises and blood as 'trophies' to the person abusing.
and pretty much every other line points to it from my view too, along with the title in a way.
