This song is so raw and amazing. Definately one of my favorite on the album at this time.
I think this could be a self-critique by Billy about his music and lyrics and the music and lyrics of others. I semi-agree with Infra.
I think Billy is talking about his old style of writing compared to the tactics used on this current album. A lot of the music and lyrics on this album sound Gish-esque and Cherub Rock-ie (with the exception of For God and Country and Pomp and Circumstances).
He is obviously beating on himself and it could be because he has brought back a sound that he knew would work for the album instead of pushing his boundaries and experimenting more as he has always tried to do with his music.
I'm not saying that this album is completely lacking newness, but a good bit of the albums sounds like a return to older styles (which I am thankful for, I wasn't a big fan of Adore, Machina or Machina II).

Whatever the meaning, the music is amazing.
