Too bad nobody commented on this hidden gem. I first heard this song many years after high school, yet when I heard it, the first thing I thought of was my first "true" love, and how I had to leave him behind when I graduated. His father didn't approve of us being together, my parents objected because his parents objected, and, since I was two years older than him, once I left high school there was no viable way we could be together. But I'll always remember our last time together, and the fun(and not so fun)times we had together, and this song always makes me spare a thought to him, all these years later. One of Lauper's best songs, especially since it's not being sung in the usual squeaky-high register we've come to know and love from her over the years.
