i think this song is about a guy who's addicted to drugs (the fire) and he's been taking them with a bunch of friends ("everybody loves to dance around the heat and fire"). He can see that it's not good for him though ("been lying here too long) and needs his girlfriend to help him break his addiction ("i need your arms to take me down"). i might be totally off though, all you b-52s fans know how few of their songs actually have really deep underlying messages.

I'm totally baffled by the lyrics of this song, but I really enjoy it anyway. Though it's a bit frustrating to me, because I'm always wondering if there IS some kind of "deep underlying message," and I'm just not getting it. (I hate that feeling!) I've done a bit of googling (of Bushfire's lyrics), but have never seen a definitive explanation of the lyrics--if there IS one! I'm sure I'm WAY off, but I've always wondered if the lyrics were expressing paranoia about the possibility that the U.S. President at the time (1989), George H. W. Bush, might start...
