Actually, I think it's really not. The song deals with it in a perspective that works with situation in which you're thrown into the limelight and you don't feel like you're right for the job: the emotions he describes could easily be applied to giving a speech, being in charge of a group of people, etc. He talks about barriers put between oneself and others, which is something many people do when they feel as if people are encroaching on their personal space, whether "millionaire rockstar" or "working class chump."

Don't think too hard about this one. I was having drinks with Alex a few yrs back, discussing my unwillingness to interact with fans (even at my local level). He told me to check out a song they wrote called Limelight. I felt like a dumbass, but he did say that it's totally about being a star and having a personal life.
