I can't believe more people haven't commented on Blue Merle. The music is amazing and lyrics even better. I've listened to this song a lot when I travel. I usually share it with my traveling buddies and we relate to the other side of the story: the person doing the leaving.
I think nerelands is right. I wonder sometimes from what viewpoint it is. Sometimes it seems like a father figure and then other times, a lover. I think a friend would be the best analogy...and a great friend at that!
