This song is about doing something even though people are telling you not to "sometimes they'll wanna cut you down ... If you want to keep up, can you afford to feel? [their criticisms, their attempts at dissuasion]." It's also about when you don't have the willpower to act--"ain't got no desire to go no place." "hand in the flame but she don't feel the fire"--it's time to act, but she can't motivate herself to do it.

Basically, "Don't Give Up" is exactly what it's about. I don't get the "what if I tried to tell you to do what for?" part. Are those the correct lyrics? She kind of slurs them every time (probably because of her British accent).

Great song from one of the best new bands to watch--they defy the multitude of comparisons applied to them. Original and important. Can't wait for the next album.
