The speaker is telling the girl that they need to "seize the day" and stop wasting time in their relationship because time is running out (this is shown in the images about the tide coming in and the sun setting.) in the second verse he talks about how they keep wasting there time "seems like i waste all my time making time" and how instead of actively being in the relationship he's just writing about it "seems like i waste all my time making rhymes."
