The singer of this song is basically saying that he is fully reliant on God, and has given his whole life to God, to the point that he doesn't want to do anything in his life without knowing that God is at his side. God can take away your pain and comfort you in any situation if you trust him.
It can be interpreted in two ways, as people said. I interpret it as the singer loving a girl, but not being able to reach her until he overcomes a great challenge, and being "awakened" afterwards, kind of like what my Tae Kwon Do teacher said would happen after I achieved my black belt. He doesn't feel this achievement is worth it if he can't see her after he achieves this "awakening", but his heart has wavered once on this task for another girl. Or something.
