He's saying that people go in circles because existence to him is hard to decipher.
The worn out places and worn out faces are going no where, because what place do any of us have in the world (the universe, existence, etc. for that matter) amongst every other creature of thing?
So the way I interpret it is that the dreams in which he's dying are the best he's ever had because he can finall maybe gain some understanding, or that he simply gets to put an end to something that never had a point in the first place.
To truly see the point of this song, I guess you'd sort of have to be depressed at the moment.
