I think Julian is an avid reader of Aldous Huxley. He references subject matter from Brave New World in his song Soma. I think he uses the relationship of two characters from Point Counter Point in this song. The characters Walter Bidlake and Lucy Tantamount are a close resemblance to the people he descibes in this song. Walter is a old fashioned romantic with a mistress. Lucy is a woman of the modern mindset. She is in it for pleasure, not for love. Walter harbors a relationship that is unsatisfying and his lover/mate is a bore...This leads to his promiscuous behavior. Regina Spektor models that side of the tango with her singing parts....She sounds like Walter's desperate/depressed lover waiting at home for him. Walter is an old fashion man with a modern day mistress...it kinda fits Julians narrative
