This song is about totally about a housewife, trapped in her urban life of boredom and monotony. All the "The Good Life" album seems to me about the normal family tragedies you know, a son leaving, a house wife who hates her life etc.
Ok, so it´s not a great mystery, the references are all over the song, the smile she puts on so the people dont see her misery, the milkman seducing, etc, but she is too afraid to change her life.
i could not agree more sandino. it seems the good life is a sort of concept album telling the tragedies of "the good life", that is the tragedies of the average household which are most often overlooked and not talked about. i think the lady in question is experiencing a midlife crisis which might be verging on depression. she has grown bored of being a housewife but her low self-esteem is keeping her at home, close by the wine bottle
