I guess it's about a guy who tried to hold onto a relationship and in doing so got hurt, badly.

The relationship ended and it tore him apart

She helped him learn about the world, and give him a reason to carry on with his life, even though she isn't in it anymore.
"Thank you for showing me there's more"
She did hurt him, but there's no point in trying again, it will just happen again, so it's time for them both to just move on.
"It's time to let go"
