There are two different versions of this song, with slightly different lyrics. (Not uncommon for Nirvana)
This is what I get from the version I have:
Even in his youth (3x)
He was nothing
Kept his body clean (3x)
Going nowhere
Daddy was ashamed (3x)
Even in his youth (3x)
He was nothing
Read this form before you're through
I've got nothing left to prove
If I die before I wake
Hope I don't come back a slave
Yeah yeah
Read this form before you're through
I've got nothing left for you
If I die before I wake
Hope I don't come back again
Even in his youth (3x)
Yeah yeah
(etc)
This is the version where the audio cut out on the vocals on the third time he sings, "Disgrace the family name," as if he leaned away from the mic or something like that.
I prerfer this version. The other version I've heard a lot, the words change a lot more. "I've got nothing left to do // left to lose // left to prove" and "Hope I don't come back again // a slave // the same." (IIRC) But I think the music is a lot better in the version I put the lyrics up for.
Even in his youth (3x)
He was nothing
Kept his body clean (3x)
Going nowhere
Daddy was ashamed (3x)
He was nothing
Disgrace the family name (3x*)
Going nowhere
Read this form before you're through
I've got nothing left to prove
If I die before I wake
Hope I don't come back a slave
@pentalarc
my mans got it. the best version of this song is on the nevermind anniversary.
"IVE GOT NOTHING LEFT TO PROVE!" is my favorite kurt lyric. He downplayed his ambition his entire life, telling everyone who'd listen he didn't want fame, and success but thats total bullshit.
Montage of heck has a great scene when he's practicing in he shitty apartment relentlessly. when i hear this song i picture him in those days; being shuffled back and forth between parents, sleeping in cars, in that dump with tracy-god only knows how many times she probably told him to get a job, have...

IVE GOT NOTHING LEFT TO PROVE!
Love it.
