I think it is about a relationship that may have not worked the first time but they're still friends and he has faith that in time, they wil becoem closer again. In time they will grow in diferent ways that might make them more compatible. They will need heart and courage because it hurt them to break the relationship off the first time and to try again, they are exposing themselves to the same emotions again and it might not work again.
But it's better than feeling alone, so better to turn darkness into light.
