sometimes even though you love someone very much you hurt that person unwillingly and regret it later but u repeat it .however you never want to give up that person so u try to mend his heart .And in the line" A promise is made in good faith, it means everything" the promise is a kind of an apology and at the end it says i wont fight it meaning he has done whatever he can and he leaves the rest to her. he wont fight anymore. this is what i get and cant find any other interpretation.
