wow cool song. nobody will probably ever read this but here it goes. first of all, here are the allusions in the song:
Super 8, Red Roof inn., etc: hotal chains
Otolaryngology: the study of the anatomy of the ears nose and throat (common cold infection points)
~ok soo u probably already knew that but im bored right now. neways, if u look at previous songs of troubled hubble, its usually about an observance or story. (i.e. Canoe song, Molecules, delcinea) its about a business man who is working for the "man" trying to make it in life. hes traveling and gets sick at a hotel. takes cold medacine. In america it is obviuous that the rich are better off in life. they can buy the best treatment for nething. (healthy equals wealthy). and this "man" is keeping the main character down. (metaphor for the average johnny pencil pusher treying to make it in life) "When push comes. Don't shove.
Just step aside and let the powerful men pass by"
in america the poor stay poor and the rich stay rich. this man who wants to buy medacine or w/e for his family is stuck down at teh bottum~ish (we dont really no but we can assume that he is lower-middle class). Do to our government and social structure this person is stuck. Lemme give u a good example of why or government is doing this.
~Bc we are capitalist (which isnt exactly bad) the government doesnt own colleges. in most cases if u wanna make u good living u gotta go to college. and college cost a looooot of money. so maybe u were born into a lower class family. u are able to get your associats (sp?) degree but not ur bach. U dont get the education the average rich kid will get if hes parents pay him through his bacc. or maybe even his masters.
~in some socialist countries (ex/ France) their college is paid iin full by the government. so lets say u were poor, worked hard in school got accepted to college, u will get the same well deserved education aS everyone.
~so the general theme of this song is probably that the rich stay healthy and wealthy. they are always better off even from birth sometimes. its hard to make it in life so step aside and let the powerful men step by
