Abigail, perhaps she is speaking to her "child" self or a younger self, a lot of people have expectations of themselves when they are younger, dreams, etc. and maybe she is just telling "herself" to "Always be yourself along the way/Living through the spirit of your dreams" and that she won't let her down. And despite the years between them, she asks "what is the world could ever come between us?" I may be totally off the mark, but that is how I interpreted the song when I first heard it.
