I kinda agree with psychocherry there, i think it's about being something you're not.
It makes me think me most about a girl trying to fit in with the fashionable crowd (horses), when she's been an unpopular type (cat) most of her life.
It's like he knows she's not being true to herself or her friends, and she is starting to ignore him, which he doesn't like, then by the end he's happy with himself and cats, and she can go and play nice with the horses like the sellout she is, and he couldn't care less.
This comes from a teenage girl mind, so it probably means something a little more mature than that. ¬_¬
