I think refering to the sound of the gunshot being atrocious. The song is about Derrick Plourde and how doing drugs made him depressed "elements in the pool were all dried up" meaning how some drugs cause a release of neurotransmitters like serotonin then the person becomes depressed later because that neurotransmitter is all used up.
