I absolutely love this song and you to listen to Key Lime Pie all the time during the mid 90's. Anybody else out there know what I mean.
I kind of get the feeling he is actually watching the girl(Like through a telescope)...but where is the setting or where is these exotic places?
superfreak, I know exactly what you mean, with just a few changes.

I didn't listen to Key Lime Pie so much in the mid-'90s, but I did get it when it first came out. I had got the cassette single of "Pictures of Matchstick Men" in advance of the album, and then I remember I bought the CD of Key Lime Pie (one of the first 10 CDs I ever bought) the week it came out in September 1989. It was in heavy rotation in my CD player at least through the end of summer 1990.

So, I know this...
So, I know this album very well, and this has always been one of my fave songs. I never thought he was watching through a telescope, but rather more of a casual observer, like just somebody he knows from living in a small southern town where everybody knows everybody else.
Only recently I learned that the song is based on characters from Thomas Pynchon's novel Gravity's Rainbow (published in 1973, set in mid-1940s Europe).
That's weird that leamanc just posted their comment only 5 hours ago... I didn't see it until just now, right after I added my own comment on the Pynchon characters... weird!
