This is a really interesting song, and one that i have found to have multiple meaning, however, the main one i think of when listening to it comes from the chorus about standing up for yourself, being your own person and not caring what other people think about you. This is a common theme in Tobias Sammet's lyrics. But also, i like to think of it as a parody of 'The Pied Piper' fairytale, and the influence one can have on someone else. In the fairytale the Pied Pipers music enchants crowds of people and they follow him everywhere, much as the same way this song could be seen as the piper being the devil, and people being influenced to follow him - 'I got you hypnotised' - there is much more but i'll leave it at that and see what you think.

Well, the first part of the song certainly seems about standing up for yourself, but then he says: "The ferryman is gentle And promises are made The other side may hold a lot to see He's gonna take you over And then he'll name the fare Oh you gamble with the devil, fool The ferryman is me" well, what i figure is: Sammet tricks us into believing that the piper is a nice guy who will help you be yourself and not being influenced by others, but then when you realise it, it would have been to late to escape then he proceeds to confuse you saying the stories...
