I wonder if this part is about losing control and being thrown into the music business 'munificent' because he was so liberal in giving everything he had to the music business. 'ascetic' (meaning strict self-denial) perhaps having to do with his attempt to gain control through anorexia. 'playing like a scared enthusiastic pawn' another indicator of a loss of control, feeling used perhaps. I don't really know...but it is a gorgeous song..really dynamic
