The dream is obviously about the Hurricane Katrina tragedy in New Orleans (2005), and more importantly; the delayed rescue services received from the US government, which left thousands of americans feeling betrayed and neglected along with the loss of their homes, possessions and loved ones.

Now into the chorus, the singer questions the scenario of the "dream" in order to determine reality. He appears to be in some delusion over the ordeal and refuses the truth believing that only a madman could think this. Therefore he is in complete denial over his country's actions, claiming it to be crazy.

However, over the next few verses he starts to realise the harsh truth. "Tomorrow's dream is yesterday's news" means that he will dream a madman's dream again, it will never change.
